October 1 – Opening Salvo of this year’s Coop Month took place at the Provincial Capitol of Misamis Oriental.
By virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 493, October is declared as Cooperative Month. This 2017 celebration carries the theme: “COOPERATIVES: Empowering the Poor and the Vulnerable Towards Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Development.” As the only one secondary dairy producing cooperative in Northern Mindanao, NMFDC together with one of its primary coop TACKBO actively participates to the Opening Salvo of this year’s Coop Month.
The conduct of a Holy Mass, Parade and Opening Program and hanging of streamers on October 1 mark the opening salvo of the month-long celebration for Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental and the rest of Region 10. The said event was successfully done organized by the Regional Cooperative Development Council (RCDC-10) headed by Chairman Mansueto V. Dela Peña and Co-Chairperson / Regional Director of Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) Cristina H. Villamil.
“We have reasons to celebrate!” CDA Usec. Orlando R. Ravanera happily expressed during his solidarity message. “Cooperatives create jobs and help eradicate poverty”, he said. Cooperatives are producers of taxpayers since the members who are also employees of the jobs generated, pay their taxes already. According to him, there are 523, 000 directly employed from the 26,000 cooperatives all over the nation which actually paying taxes up to 6.9 billion.
Through the cooperatives, social injustice is being solved. “Empowering the poor and the vulnerable”, Usec. Ravanera said. According to him, farmers not just till the land but they are also able to own the land because of the cooperatives and learn the production and marketing.
On the other hand, NMFDC showcase its Highland Fresh Dairy Products during the Opening Salvo. Coop Month’s celebration will be in place to the different municipalities, provinces and cities of Region 10.
